What does Thanksgiving mean to you?

We brainstormed a list of things to explain what Thanksgiving means to us.  We had a great conversation about taking time to be thankful for something in our life.  From this conversation, we began our Thankful project.  This project will be completed at school next week and sent home to be shared on Thanksgiving.  Each student is creating a Thankful Turkey centerpiece for Thanksgiving dinner and they are writing a paragraph about the things they are thankful for.  I am asking all of my students to share their writing and thankful turkey next week.
I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Do you about the Wampanoags and Pilgrims?

We have begun our first research project in social studies.  We are learning about the Wampanoags and the Pilgrims.  We have three group of students researching about the Native American tribe, Wampanoags.  We have one group of students learning about the Pilgrims.  I have seen a lot of collaboration while learning.  Once the research is completed, each student will write and illustrate a book about their topic.  I can't wait to see our finished books.

Book Buddies with Miss Anderson's Second Grade class

Miss Anderson's second grade class came to our classroom this afternoon to share books with us.  Everyone seemed to be engaged and enjoying the stories being read.  We are looking forward to being book buddies again soon!  Thank you Miss Anderson's class for great experience!

Toy Drive at Burlington Fire Stations

Hello all,

With the holiday season fast approaching, here at Fire, we have in past years teamed up with 'Toys for Tots' to run our holiday toy drive. This has proven more and more difficult to follow through with as they no longer have local contacts and the toys have not always been picked up in time to be distributed by the holidays. That is why this year we have decided that we will not be affiliating ourselves with that program.

Despite that, we will still be collecting toys at both Fire stations. These toys will be driven in by Burlington Firefighters and donated directly to the Children's Hospital of Boston for distribution through the MA Children's hospitals. So spread the word, and lets help put a smile on the children's faces this holiday season.

Your gift donations are just as welcome, and just as appreciated. All of the same still rules apply: new, unused, unwrapped toys for boys and girls of all ages

Any questions, feel free to ask and we'll try to get an answer as soon as possible.

Thanks,
Burlington Fire Holiday Toy Task Force

Musical Instruments/How To Writing

As part of our sound unit in Science we made musical instruments.  Then we made "How To Build A Musical Instrument" posters.  The posters had a title (name of instrument), a sequence chain, a supply list,  step by step directions of how to make the instrument,  and a picture of the final project.  We had a lot of fun engineering and writing today!

Mapping with Miss Fallon

Miss Fallon worked with my class to create a map of Burlington.
